| 06/21/10 | NYSDEC New Solid Waste Plan Draft | Entitled Beyond Solid Waste - A Sustainable Materials Management Strategy for New York, the NYSDEC has drafted a 480-page plan to reduce solid waste through increases in reuse, recycling and composting in local communities. Further, the plan calls for a reduction in packaging by manufacturers and a reduction in climate and environmental impacts caused by transporting waste and harmful emissions coming from incinerators and landfills.

| 03/20/06 | Ava Complaint to DEC | The Town of Ava sends a letter to Region 6 DEC requesting their Consent Order be rescinded. The town board and the citizens they represent are genuinely concerned about the environment in Ava. They are extremely distressed that OHSWA and Rifenburg have been given permission by the DEC to allow excessive sediment to enter Moose Creek - "a provision that is contrary to the basic mission of the DEC."

News Updates...ACAL News – Week of 28 September 2007
October has arrived! And with the changing leaves, comes the annual Adirondack Communities Advisory League (ACAL) Fall Foliage Auction – the organization’s largest fund raising event!
This year’s auction is slated to be one of the most exciting yet. ACAL is especially grateful to have the experienced and talented Mr. Dick LeClar as auctioneer. If you haven’t participated in one of Dick’s auctions, now is the time. Dick is a lot of fun and does a great job keeping the auction on track and running smoothly.
Also new to the auction this year is its location. ACAL is excited to host this year’s auction at the Masonic Temple on Schuyler Street in Downtown Boonville. ACAL is most appreciative to the Masons for their hospitality and spacious facility.
Before sharing a brief preview of the awesome items that will be up for bid, here are the details:
Who: Adirondack Communities Advisory League (ACAL)
ACAL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization originally founded in 1993 to stop the siting and construction of a regional landfill in Ava, and to preserve and protect the environment in Northern Oneida and Southern Lewis counties. Recently, ACAL has expanded its mission to include the Tug Hill region, which is at risk for uncontrolled economic growth and overuse of natural resources. ACAL is a 100% volunteer organization, with no paid employees. ACAL’s income is based solely on fund raising, donations and grants. This summer, ACAL was awarded its first grant for legal fees regarding its Clean Water Act Citizens’ Lawsuit against the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (OHSWA).
