| 06/21/10 | NYSDEC New Solid Waste Plan Draft | Entitled Beyond Solid Waste - A Sustainable Materials Management Strategy for New York, the NYSDEC has drafted a 480-page plan to reduce solid waste through increases in reuse, recycling and composting in local communities. Further, the plan calls for a reduction in packaging by manufacturers and a reduction in climate and environmental impacts caused by transporting waste and harmful emissions coming from incinerators and landfills.

| 06/08/06 | ACAL vs. OHSWA | ACAL filed a lawsuit against OHSWA for polluting the trout spawing stream of Moose Creek for over a year. The ongoing pollution to the creek violates State environmental law and the Clean Water Act.

| 04/20/06 | Letter to Ava from OHSWA | Lengthy letter from OHSWA Executive Director Hans Arnold to the Ava Town Board regarding a "host community benefit package". The Ava board refuses to negotiate with OHSWA for a 1000+/- acre landfill that is being forced into their rural community.

| 03/31/06 | DEC response to Ava | DEC Region 6 Director Sandra LeBarron's letter to Town of Ava regarding Ava's request to rescind the March 2006 DEC Consent Order and take "appropriate enforcement action". Ms. LeBarron states the DEC's response must be "somewhat restrained" since ACAL has filed a notice of intent to file a citizen's suit against OHSWA.

| 03/20/06 | Ava Complaint to DEC | The Town of Ava sends a letter to Region 6 DEC requesting their Consent Order be rescinded. The town board and the citizens they represent are genuinely concerned about the environment in Ava. They are extremely distressed that OHSWA and Rifenburg have been given permission by the DEC to allow excessive sediment to enter Moose Creek - "a provision that is contrary to the basic mission of the DEC."

News Updates...EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE by Jacki Chamberlain
I read in Newsweek that our personal inquiries on search engines, like Yahoo and Google, are stored in files and used to make our future searches more productive. But since our computers leave an imprint wherever they go on the Internet, our identities and personal interests can also be determined if these records are examined closer. Scary? I think so.
In an age where our personal freedoms are becoming more and more limited, how can regular folks like you and me still exercise our rights as citizens? By voting: the act of expressing our personal choice.
This is an important election year for New Yorkers. We are being called to elect a new governor. We are also being called to elect state representatives that will help influence and form the future of New York State.
Go ahead and ask it … I’m waiting to hear the question, “What difference can my one vote make?” - because I have a response all prepared.
I’m not a big fan of politics. There is a lot about politics I don’t understand, but I have challenged myself to learn more.
Power and politics go together. Like it or not, large corporations and wealthy individuals can mold, shape and influence our political leaders and help place them in office. Campaigns are created to influence voters and the media can either help or hinder this objective.
But despite the money spent on campaigns and the “spin” they put forth to the public through the media, one group and one group only has the power to elect: the voters.
To cast an educated and thoughtful vote for the best candidate after extensive research and discussion is to exercise our rights as free citizens of the United States. It is our responsibility as Americas to make sure we know whom we are voting for before we cast our votes.
There is no law that says if you are a registered republican you are required to vote for a republican, especially if the republican candidate is not the best choice for the job.
Voting irresponsibility is like not voting at all. Selecting a name we recognize without knowing anything about the candidate is foolish and negligent. Do the research. Find out who the candidates really are and what they believe in, before casting your vote.
I have always been excellent in mathematics, but one doesn’t need an understanding of trigonometry to understand this simple equation: One educated and thoughtful vote added to many educated and thoughtful votes equals “power of the people”. No corporation or wealthy individual or media “spin” can manipulate and change the truth.
