A Public Forum to address the environmental concerns of citizens of the southern portion of the Twenty-third Congressional District will be held in Boonville at the Charles J. Love Post 406 American Legion on Thursday Oct 12, 2006 beginning at 7:30PM. The Legion Hall is located at 124 East Schuyler St. in Boonville.
The program will include a brief presentation by Ian Klingbail, Town of Lewis Councilman, highlighting ongoing environmental issues and concerns affecting Moose Creek and the Black River. Congressional candidates John McHugh and his opponent, Dr. Bob Johnson, have been invited to participate in the forum. They will be asked to briefly state their views and policies regarding the environment and participate in a question and answer session.
John McHugh of Pierrepont Manor has served in Congress since 1993. In 2003, sections of Oneida County, including Boonville and Ava, were placed in his district.
Dr. Bob Johnson of Sackets Harbor is a surgeon at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown and was formerly a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Medical Corp. This is his second attempt to unseat Congressman McHugh. To date, Dr. Johnson has agreed to attend the forum.
The event is sponsored by Adirondack Communities Advisory League (ACAL). The public is welcome and strongly encouraged to attend this forum in order to become a better informed voters in the upcoming election. Refreshments will be served.
