Beaver Meadow

Beaver Meadow
This is a beaver meadow that is located on the dump site near the proposed access road. This pond is also located near wetlands that are presently being destroyed by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority.

Man-made wetlands?

Man-made wetlands?
The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority is removing soil from one wetlands area and replacing it with soil from another wetlands area on the dump site. Why would anyone build a dump here?

Exposed shale is visible in the center and ground water is flowing in from that area. OHSWA is destroying natural wetlands to build a dump access road.

Dead Brook Trout

Dead Brook Trout
Brook trout were found dead on 8/22/04 along the banks of the Moose Creek, a Class C trout stream, after a beaver dam gave way on the proposed dump site, sending water, mud contaminate and debris from a 15 acre beaver pond (see above) and OHSWA man made wetlands (see above) into the Moose Creek, which flows into the Sugar and Black Rivers. DEC failed to investigate the dead fish and take water samples, ignoring the requests of Lewis County legislators and local residents living near the affected water ways.
